Decades ago, the New York Times food critic put this little shopping plaza “shack” on the map. Neither chef/owner Mike Moir nor diners have ever looked back. Food Shack continues to offer the freshest seafood anywhere, with simple, creative preparations and great sides, making this a must-visit for tourists and a “wish-they’d-leave” for locals. 

Because it's an intimate, galley-style, uber-popular restaurant, there'll be a wait. With local art on every inch of the walls and a semi-open kitchen with its service window decked out in tiki-hut decor, there's a never-ending story of interesting things to keep you occupied between courses. 

Caribbean influences show up in the coconut rice and tropical fruit relishes plated with the fillets of Wahoo, Grouper, Tripletail, Golden Tile and other local fishes sourced daily from conservation-minded fishermen. Their fun, handwritten menu changes nightly but the signature Sweet Potato crusted fish over salad (which was created spontaneously by Mike Moir on the first day they opened, remains the most popular item on the menu. Homemade soups. Homemade dressings. Homemade desserts.  Another don’t miss? The specials “bowl” that changes daily, and the Tres Leches changeup for dessert.

A creative list of craft cocktails and a solid craft beer and handpicked wine list are served by friendly staff in their adjoining waiting area, too — a room of its own called Maxi’s Lineup (yo, QuenchTimers!). There, you can eat at the bar.  Live music at Maxi’s means it’s always time to “party at the Shack.”
